I am kicking off the concept-generation phase for an ear-based light therapy device aimed at adults who struggle with sleep. I need a creative industrial designer who can translate user-centered insights into a range of fresh, visually compelling ideas that we can later shortlist for detailed development, CAD and prototyping
Scope of work
• Immerse yourself in the sleep-aid market and the daily routines of adults with insomnia or circadian rhythm issues.
• Explore form factors that sit comfortably on—or in— the ear while directing gentle therapeutic light to the auditory canal or surrounding tissue.
• Balance aesthetics, ergonomics, safety, and ease of use, keeping in mind eventual manufacturability.
Deliverables
1. A minimum of 4–6 distinct concept sketches (hand-drawn or digital) clearly annotated to explain key features, materials, and the user interaction.
2. A short rationale for each concept tying design choices back to user needs and potential technical feasibility.
3. A summary board that visually compares the concepts so stakeholders can vote and move one or two options forward to CAD modeling.
Acceptance criteria
• Sketches must communicate geometry, scale, and wearability at a glance.
• All visuals supplied in high-resolution PDF and layered source files (PSD, AI, or Sketch).
• Rationale references at least two known pain points for poor sleepers (e.g., bedtime routine friction, device comfort during side-sleeping).
Preferred tools are up to you—Procreate, SketchBook, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator, or comparable software are all fine—as long as the output meets the criteria above.
